Anver M. Emon is a professor of law and history at the Jackman Faculty of Law and the Department of History at the University of Toronto. A specialist in Islamic legal history, he has also written about charities and regulation under conditions of national security. He has authored and co-authored reports on the unintended consequences of Canada’s anti-money-laundering and anti-terrorist-financing and sanctions regime on the charitable sector, with specific adverse impact on Muslim-led charities. His forthcoming book, Moving Muslim Money, situates Canada’s AML/ATF regime within a broader critical inquiry about risk, probability, and the alchemies of regulation.
